HVAC Mechanic

 

 

Summary of the Classification:

Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
 

Principal Responsibilities:
 
¥      Participate in the installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment.
 
 
Performs many of the following responsibilities:
 
  • Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications
  • Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source
  • May install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity, in warehouses and small factory buildings.
  • Other related duties as required
 
 
Education Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of technical training in the principles of refrigeration, heating and air handling. Current Journeyman?s licensing in Heating and Air Conditioning or equivalent required. Training and certification in Freon Recovery/Recyvling required.
 

Experience Required:


Typically, three (3) to five (5) years of journeyman's experience in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of air conditioning, air handling, chilled water distribution systems and controls working from blueprints, schematics, designs and/or sketches is required
